When we say that God is our 'portion' (inheritance), we see Him as the all-sufficient One, the source of everything we could ever need.
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26
In the Lord, we have the best inheritance imaginable. Seeking any possession or comfort outside of Him is of no real value. All that this world has to offer pales in comparison to the promises we have in Christ.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” Lamentations 3:24
Leonard Ravenhill - All that He is and all that He has is ours! Every attribute of His being is over us, every perfection of His nature encircles us, every pulse of His heart beats for us, and every glance of His eye smiles upon us. We dwell in God, and God dwells in us. It is not the world that is our portion, but HE who made, upholds, and governs the world. It is not the creature who is our portion, but the Lord of angels and the Creator of men. Infinite portion! illimitable power! immeasurable grace! boundless love! all-satisfying good! all, all is ours!
He is our 'Treasured Inheritance' ... we have need of nothing else.
