Christ's 'feeding the five thousand' opened the door to a new proclamation. After the people had eaten the wondrously multiplied loaves, Jesus spoke to them about a different kind of bread, one that never spoils and would always keep them satisfied.
When the people asked for this bread ... Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:35
Jesus reminded them about the manna provided to their ancestors in the wilderness. then reaffirms that He is now 'the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever.' John 6:51
The symbolism was tangibly expressed at the Last Supper ...
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. Matthew 26:26
The Lord explicitly spelled out the nature of His upcoming crucifixion and His role in restoring people to a right relationship with the Father. He was to be the sacrificial Lamb of God.
Jesus made salvation plain, simple, and available for everyone. If we put faith in His death, burial, and resurrection ... we have eternal life. There is no additional sacrifice or work to be done.
How then do we partake of the Bread of Life?
Believe, pilgrim ... just believe.
