Promising happiness as a reward, sin gains strength through repetition until one's conscience is seared. It happens slowly, beginning with a thought. Then over time, unless that thought is eradicated ... contemplation turns into action.
When a wrong thought creeps into the mind of a Christian, he is faced with a choice ... to expel it, or to entertain it. The Word of God trains a believer to quickly recognize when temptation is at the door and the Holy Spirit empowers him to resist any wrongdoing.
If we are to be in bondage, let it be to the Lord ...
Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:16
A physical prison is built brick-by-brick, and such is the spiritual jailhouse that mankind erects one sin at a time. The unrepentant sinner is enslaved; resulting in guilt, suffering, and separation from God.
But we have a Savior.
When Jesus Christ is received into your life by grace through faith, chains are broken and you are set free.
