'Rest' for one's soul is found in Jesus Christ alone. This world cannot give it to you, (nor take it away).
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
He does not just 'show' us that rest, or 'tell' us of that rest, but He 'gives' us that rest. Our Savior not only has the right to bestow it ... but the will to do so.
To find 'rest' in Him, we must first experience the spiritual exhaustion that results from being sojourners in this place. We earnestly try to build a life of faith and find that we groan under the weight of it. Day by day we become more fatigued ... tired of the world, for it has become a valley of tears; tired of 'self', for the sin nature plagues us; tired of religion, for the Lordship of Jesus Christ is no longer taught; tired of naysayers, for their arguments only burden our mind; tired of our physical bodies, for they fall victim to sickness and pain; and tired of life itself, for we see emptiness where most people see treasure.
When we are finally weary of everything here below (including ourselves), we will better understand, and subsequently long for, the perfect 'rest' that Christ gives ... and He will give it.
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Hebrews 4:9
It becomes our continual 'sabbath' rest; the place from where your calling springs forth and spiritual battles are fought.
