If you turn toward something, by necessity you will turn away from something else. This is the life-changing principle behind the word 'conversion'.
When one turns to Jesus for salvation, turning away from a sin-laden life is implied (i.e. repentance). A true convert quells the fallen nature that once dominated his thoughts, words, and actions.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24
We live in a pluralistic society that teaches that all religions are basically the same and one is not superior to another. But Christianity is not a religion ... it is a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ, His Son.
The Lord is solely responsible for salvation. He arranges your every circumstance so that you might come to know Him personally. Conversion is not a cooperative venture between you and God. Even the ability to believe in Christ is a gift and all the glory belongs to Him.
God seems to delight in converting a brutish coldhearted sinner into a devoted follower of Christ. It is amazing irony that the worse his rebellion, the greater the glory when he is saved. The farther he is from God, the more impactful the conversion. Though he bears the scars of his past life and brings that baggage with him into the church ... he becomes a powerful living testimony of God's grace.
The story of Paul's conversion in the Book of Acts should remind us not to give up on the enemies of the Cross. Continue to pray for that loved one who has a rebellious spirit steeped in sin.
God is able to move that mountain.
