Heartache, disappointment, betrayal, and sin can leave us feeling shattered. We wonder if hope will ever come again, but the Word of God reminds us that 'joy comes in the morning'. The dark night can seem like an eternity, but it is not permanent for the Christian believer.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5
Breaking down this verse ...
'For his anger is but for a moment'
The chastisement of God is brief, a short time which is for our training and development. His anger is not 'uncontrolled human emotion', but a righteous dissatisfaction with sin and rebellion. My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
'His favor is for life'
God’s discipline will always turn to favor because His grace abides forever. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 2 Corinthians 4:17, Romans 8:28
'Weeping may endure for a night'
When afflictions are most heavy and pressing, when darkness causes one's soul to cry out; God is at work. Even though you have to suffer various kinds of trials for a little while, your genuine faith, which is more valuable than gold that perishes when tested by fire, may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus, the Messiah, is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7
'But joy comes in the morning'
For the children of God, our current sorrow will be followed by heaven's promised joy. That glorious morning will come and the source of suffering will have been vanquished forever. However long you've endured, it will appear that it was but for a moment. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
Though life may seem like one unbroken night of sorrow, an eternal day of joy awaits those who are in Christ Jesus.
