MOCKING GOD

Tragically in our day, most people reject the authority of God's Word and live as they see fit. As the Day of the Lord approaches, evil has become increasingly commonplace and considered justifiable in their reprobate way of thinking.

Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.  Galatians 6:7

The Amplified Version says: Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.

'Mocking God' is not just scoffing at the Truth found in Scripture, but is an entire way of life for those who despise the idea of His sovereignty ...

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning.”  2 Peter 3:3-4

Liken it to a man who denies the law of gravity and doesn't believe it applies to him personally. He decides to prove it by climbing to the top of a twenty-story building to jump from the ledge. His last words are heard as he sails past a guy on the third floor, 'Hey ... nothing's happened yet!'

Such is the mindset of today's generation. The promise of Jesus' return is nothing more than a myth to soothe the conscience of 'weak-minded' believers.

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.  Matthew 24:37-39

Ernest Hemingway was famous for snubbing his nose at God, declaring that his life proved that a person could do anything he wanted without consequence. He considered the Bible to be antiquated and outdated, completely useless ... a hindrance to his pursuit of pleasure and self-fulfillment. Sadly, his life of 'mocking the things of God' ended in despair and suicide.

The wicked earns deceptive wages (any gain is not "real"; it does not endure - Proverbs 10:25), but he who sows righteousness (empowered by the Spirit) reaps a true reward. (Proverbs 11:18)

Christians must walk circumspectly ... never permitting themselves to misinterpret the 'grace of our Lord' as a 'license to sin'.
