SPIRITUAL ADULTERY

Natural marriage is considered a sacred union between a man and a woman which should never be entered into lightly. Likewise, there must be a solemn unwavering commitment to Christ before openly professing Him to be the Lord of your life.

Giving to the world what He alone is entitled to (your love, devotion, time, and energy) is considered 'spiritual adultery'.

The Word of God mentions four entanglements associated with that 'unfaithfulness' ...

1. Friend of the world: You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4)

2. Soiled by the world: Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27)

3. Love of the world: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)

4. Conformity to the world: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)

Inwardly worshiping at the altar of that which the world has to offer ... while outwardly pretending to worship God is the worst kind of 'hypocrisy'.

For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 John 2:16

There are two opposing forces ... the holiness of God and the wickedness of this fallen world. Contrary to how many professing Christians live their lives, there is no 'middle ground'.

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. Matthew 6:24

Bring your body and its appetites under the control of the Holy Spirit. Subject your imagination to the mind of Christ and walk humbly through a world where self-righteousness and boasting are the order of the day.

Show undying loyalty to the One Who redeemed you, pilgrim ...
