SOME TRUST IN CHARIOTS

Your family, your work, your resources; every hope, plan, and aspiration; all that you have and all that you are ... Trust God with it.

He is worthy ...

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.  Psalm 20:6-7

This verse should be the proclamation of every believer. In these troubled times, some Christians tap into worldly resources out of fear (i.e. end-time 'preppers'). These 'chariots' and 'horses' will not relieve the anxiety they feel concerning the prophesied 'last days'.

Scripture urges us to place our trust in the Lord  ...

He alone provides divine assistance. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

He alone brings discernment. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)

He alone guides us through. Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

He alone liberates us. And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. (2 Timothy 4:18)

We can extend this idea of trusting in chariots and horses to salvation itself. Trying to obey religious law in your own strength can never appease a Holy God. Otherwise ... Jesus died in vain.

Attempting to affect the impact of 'end-time' events by hoarding gold or building a bunker is putting trust in 'self'.

Even atheists and skeptics tend to rely on their egoistic sense of morality ... hoping that, if God does exist, their good deeds will secure salvation. This too is a 'chariot'.

The Gospel invites us to trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ. He promised, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28).

Can you let go of the perceived security of earthly things and put your entire life in God's hands? The best place to be is where He is Lord of all. You will find rest for your soul ... knowing that you are covered, you are safe, you are loved, you are His.
