ATHEISM

Atheists take a philosophical position that there is no 'supreme being'. They consider themselves intellectually superior to those who live by 'faith' ... especially faith in a God to whom they will be held accountable.

Statistics show that 'atheism' is on the rise in countries that once treasured Christianity's message of forgiveness. An egregious egocentric ideology has all but replaced man's belief in God. The Lord's handiwork is everywhere, yet people are determined to 'turn a blind eye' to that which proves His existence ...

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20

There are several reasons people identify as atheists ...

1. Ignorance
A person may conclude that nothing exists beyond the observable universe and his personal interaction with the known world. Exposed to a mishmash of worldviews, he concludes there is no truth to any of it and chooses not to pursue God or understand His divine will.

2. Disillusionment
Due to negative experiences (such as having prayers go unanswered or seeing hypocritical behavior in others), disheartenment can take root. To avoid the possibility of further disappointment, a person may abandon what faith he had and find a false sense of comfort by deciding that God simply does not exist.

3. Hardness of heart
The idea that God is Spirit, invisible, and found only through faith is not acceptable to the 'my way or the highway' mindset. These willful souls have adopted a headstrong attitude against the Creator of the universe and an unrelenting animosity toward believers.

4. Pride
The very essence of all sin is 'self-determination'. By denying the existence of a Creator, men can do whatever they please without concern for future judgment or eternal consequences. Being the captain of their domain is what satisfies their wayward soul.

The Lord considers 'atheism' a pointless, inane pursuit ...  The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’. Psalm 14:1

If you are confronted by an argumentative atheist, remain calm. Rely on the Scriptures to plant a seed of doubt concerning his unbelief. But understand ... if faith in Christ is dismissed as nonsense, it is not necessarily because you have failed in your delivery. Jesus was also rejected by some who heard His message.
