In a society that honors outward achievement, material gain, and prestige ... lasting peace and contentment are virtually unattainable. 'Enough' is always just out of reach for those caught up in the never-ending pressure to be seen as successful.
True contentment can never be found in the abundance of things ... only in the 'fewness of wants'.
Paul expressed it this way ... I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. (Philippians 4:11)
Contentedness can not be achieved by the will of man. It is a supernatural gift from a Heavenly Father to His children. When God's invisible, eternal promises grip one's heart ... the visible, temporal things of this world lose their importance.
A W Pink - Contentment is the product of a heart resting in God … It is the blessed assurance that God does all things well and is, even now, making all things work together for my ultimate good.
Contrary to what the 'health-and-wealth' churches would have us believe, Scripture warns us against pursuing riches. Any desire to live a God-honoring life is quickly eroded by a greedy, covetous spirit.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20
Christian contentment is not a 'discipline' to be pursued but, a Person living in and through you ...
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
You can experience all the peace, joy, and fulfillment your heart longs for ... but only when you come to realize that CHRIST IS ENOUGH.
