The Lord wants you to be honest with Him. Too often, prayer becomes a ritualistic exercise ... a vain attempt to say the things you think will placate Him.
He is moved instead by your willingness to expose the hidden things of the heart. God is already familiar with those dark recesses and wants you to experience how His grace can shine there.
Too many Christians refuse to tell God the truth. Like Adam, they cover their nakedness ... attempting to hide the shame of their latent sin nature. But an honest prayer life comes when you surrender everything to the Lord.
It is where true freedom lies ...
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1
When you fail to be open and honest, your personal struggle with the finished work of Jesus Christ becomes obvious. If you find yourself with doubts and fear, invite the Lord into that place of unrest ...
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
Honest prayers are beautiful and necessary because they represent the only authentic and acceptable offering to our Lord.
C.S. Lewis - We must lay before Him what is in us, not what ought to be in us.
What is happening in your life right now? What is weighing you down? What temptations are you battling? What is the state of your faith? What insecurities plague you?
Bring everything to God ... and be honest.
