'LEAP OF FAITH'

This oft-used expression is defined as 'a radical commitment to an idea or conviction, regardless of whether it can be rationally or empirically proven' ... in other words, to believe in something with no evidence for it.

Though the phrase is not found in Scripture, Hebrews 11:1 sites its equivalent ... Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

The Bible gives us an impressive list of those who took a 'leap of faith'. Their powerful stories exist for a reason ... to inspire us. Our trust in the Lord grows stronger as we study the Word of God.

By faith, Noah obeyed God and built an ark to save his family. (Genesis 6:9-7:24)

By faith, Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son, believing God would provide. (Genesis 22:1-19)

By faith, David confronted a giant with only a sling and a stone. (1 Samuel 17)

They help us understand the biblical meaning of 'leap of faith'. It often requires taking what appears to be a great risk ... but it is not a 'blind' leap. It is not an irrational impulse; it is not a jump into the vast unknown without any foresight.

We have God’s promises.

He delights in our trust and rewards those who earnestly pursue Him: Without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

A 'leap of faith' is actually a leap into His all-powerful and loving arms.
