ENTANGLEMENT

A believer is to escape the corruptive influence of this world by surrendering every thought, word, and deed to the Spirit's sanctifying power.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

When worldly pursuits hold you so tightly that you aren't free to serve the Lord, you are considered ... 'entangled'. The tentacles of today's increasingly materialistic, hedonistic, self-absorbed society have wrapped around you and crippled your walk of faith.

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him who enlisted him as a soldier2 Timothy 2:3-4

When your soul strays from the path of discipleship, you can be inextricably snagged by the thorns of a destructive egocentric lifestyle.

Continually invest in that which is 'eternal'. Meditate on things that will stand long after the breath of God has swept everything else into oblivion ...

Set our mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth, for we have died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:2-3

In other words, 'attachment' to Christ is the secret to 'detachment' from the world.

Calvin - The mind of a Christian ought not to be filled with thoughts of earthly things or find satisfaction in them, for we ought to be living as if we might have to leave this world at any moment.

We live 'in' the world, but we must not let the world live 'in' us. (a boat is designed to be in the water, but water in a boat is a disaster)

The only motivation for pursuing an 'unentangled' life should be to please the Lord ... not others, not yourself. What passing pleasure in this world can compare to the indescribable joy in hearing this from the lips of Christ one day ... 'Well done, My good and faithful servant' Matthew 25:21
