MEDITATION

We live in an age of 'information overload'. At our fingertips are news reports from around the globe, opinion-laden commentaries about any subject, and advice on how to process it all. Christians can be so distracted by today's fast-paced, frenetic lifestyle that they find little time to meditate on the Lord and His Word.

Paul instructed the early church to stay focused ...

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

Biblical meditation is a spiritual discipline that quiets the storm. It requires time and effort ... it is not to be rushed. We must deliberately set aside time to withdraw from all the chaos and concentrate on the truths found in God's Word. They confirm your position in Christ and guide you on your walk of faith.

The secular world views 'meditation' as a healthy way to relax and remove stress from one’s life. But the form they speak of can never provide the true and lasting peace found in Christ alone ... Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Since your mind can never be 'blank' and entirely at rest, it is important to fill it with the right things. Meditate on Jesus and His Lordship ... not on yourself or the things of this world.
