Genuine faith doesn't abide alone; it is always accompanied by 'expectation'. A follower of Christ is to trust the promises of God and anticipate their fulfillment.
He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4
These promises are of inexpressible value. Through them, we undergo a radical spiritual transformation. With the Word of God in our hands and the Spirit of God in our hearts, we possess 'everything we need for a godly life'.
A few promises concerning forgiveness, the divine nature, and eternal life ...
'Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool'. Isaiah 1:18
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. Ezekiel 36:26
I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3
Because I live, you also will live. John 14:19
These are not empty words; they are 'tried and true'. Our finite minds cannot fully comprehend the power behind God's blessed assurances ... the breadth, length, height, and depth of which is beyond our ken.
Spurgeon - God, unchangeable ... He has not altered the thing that has gone out of His mouth, nor called back one single consolatory sentence. Nor doth He lack any power; He who made the heavens and the earth has spoken. If we meditate upon the promises and consider the Promiser, we shall experience their sweetness, and obtain their fulfillment.
They rise above everything we might encounter in this life; any problem, any affliction ... any trial.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20
Affirmed by the life of God's Son, His promises are stamped with the word 'Yes'. The 'amen' at the end of a prayer shows confidence that we are not only heard by our Lord ... but that we trust Him.
The Bible is full of divine promises. Seek them out, study their meaning, and apply them to your personal walk of faith.
