Do not be deceived ...
Everyone has a 'master' for whom he serves. There are but two ... you are either under the dominion of Sin or the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Until you are delivered by grace through faith, iniquity will reign as king over your life. Attempting to escape its tyranny by your own strength is futile.
Freedom from sin's inexorable power can only happen if your 'old man' dies and you are 'born anew' ... I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
Christ's victory was accomplished on our behalf and if we have truly died with Him, sin and death have been dethroned. They can no longer claim lordship because it is Jesus who works obedience in us and His grace enables us to do that which is pleasing to God. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. (Romans 6:14)
Spurgeon - If He sets you free, you will never go back to sin's slavery again. There is no emancipation like that which Jesus brings, for it is eternal; when He snaps the fetter, He sets the believer free forever.
Remember ... The Lordship of Jesus Christ gives you hope that change is possible (it is not passive as if no change is necessary). Allow sanctification to take root and bring about a transformation, the very evidence of your relationship with Him.
