THE BURDEN BEARER

Man often believes he must deal with the cares of this life in his own strength. When he fails to overcome an ill-fated situation, silencing the anxiety he experiences is next to impossible. The load is too heavy and he feels crushed under the weight.

Christians are exhorted to trust the Lord with those burdens ... Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

'Humble yourself' means to recognize that you are not God. Don't allow pride to make you hold a tight grip on your cares. Throw them upon the shoulders of your loving Savior ... Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22) Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

These verses do not promise that He will remove the source of the anxiety, but your troubled state of mind is calmed. When we relinquish the right to fight our own battles, the Lord vows to use every situation for our good ... And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

The exhortation to humble ourselves and to cast all our cares on the Lord is a command, not a suggestion ... Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

He does not want you to be weighed down by the difficulties of this life ... Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

While it is normal to have concerns that come to you as 'demanding pressures', there is a limit to their legitimacy. Don't let the 'worries of this life' so dominate your heart and mind that the promises of God are forgotten.

Remember ... you have a divine 'burden bearer'.
