THE SON OF PERDITION

This designation is mentioned twice in the New Testament; once in reference to Judas Iscariot and the other to the coming Antichrist ...

1. Jesus prayed concerning His disciples (including the one who would betray Him) ... While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept, and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. (John 17:12)

2. Paul prophesied ... Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)

Judas walked with Jesus, witnessed His miracles, sat under His teachings, and saw clear evidence of Christ's divinity ... yet in selfish ambition, he betrayed the Son of God.

Lucifer was the most beautiful of all the angels, an anointed cherub in the Lord's presence. But he was not content with his position and rebelled. It is his spirit that will dwell in the Antichrist.

A 'son of perdition' knows the right path but willfully chooses to go his own way. It is the 'unpardonable sin' ...

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. Hebrews 6:4-6

Understand that It is never right for us to label someone a 'son of perdition'. God alone knows the ultimate future of each human soul. No matter how lost or evil a person seems, we are to pray for his redemption ...

Paul to Timothy ... Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men ... that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Every 'son of perdition' is known by God and judged accordingly.
