The following verse is often yanked out of context and regarded as a 'blank check' from God. Today's 'prosperity gospel' uses it to bolster a self-seeking false doctrine ...
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
This is instead a conditional statement. Paul was simply assuring the church in Philippi that because they supported him (out of their meager resources), they would be blessed by God. It is not a formula for gaining wealth, but a description of how our Lord works.
Note that it is a promise to meet 'Need' ... not 'Greed'.
The current 'name it, claim it' theology (with its demand that every wish, want, and desire be satisfied) ... IS NOT BIBLICAL.
F B Meyer - We must distinguish between our needs and our desires. It is possible to want a good many things which we do not need. We often want things which it would injure us greatly to have.
God's idea of what we 'need' is often different from ours. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that our focus should be shifted away from this world with its lying allurements ...
Recognizing the difference between 'need' and 'greed' is vitally important; especially in our current materialistic society. Your old nature may long for something that your new nature sees as harmful.
Therefore ... Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)
God's provision is enough.
