God spoke 'audibly' to mankind in the Old Testament, through His Son during His earthly ministry, and now through the indwelling Holy Spirit and the written Word ...
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Many Christians long to hear God's 'voice' yet don't devote real time to personal Bible study and quiet contemplation. Since they don't pursue intimacy with the Lord they drift aimlessly through life ... often relying on a pastor to be their only conduit of truth.
False doctrine can slip in if we don't know our Bible ... Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. (Psalm 119:11)
Employees at a bank are trained to recognize counterfeit currency by studying the real thing so closely that they can easily spot a fake. We should be so familiar with Scripture that when someone speaks error, we quickly know that it's not from the Lord ... Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
The discipline of Scripture memorization allows the Holy Spirit to move on your behalf. You instantly recall verses that apply to everything you might encounter ... Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)
The Bible helps you correctly identify 'the voice of God'.
Have you ever entered a room full of people and suddenly heard a voice you recognize? Similarly, the more we meditate on God’s Word, the more we learn to differentiate between His voice and our own thoughts.
Let us train our ears to hear what the Lord is saying.
