According to the Bible, 'the wicked' have no peace. The assertion seems to go against what we witness in the lives of many ungodly people. From our limited point of view, they appear satisfied and happy ...
But the wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, for the wicked. (Isaiah 57:20-21)
Favorable circumstances only provide the illusion of peace. It is 'external' and the unsaved world exhausts itself trying to maintain it. Lost mankind never experiences true peace because it comes from above.
Jesus told His disciples ... Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
As long as a man believes he is personally responsible for creating his own peace, he will do whatever it takes to obtain it. Without God, he has no 'moral compass', so sinful acts become a 'justified' means to an end. But no matter what he does in his pursuit, the emptiness he feels never goes away.
Numbing his conscience with any number of addictive behaviors is usually the next step.
God's imparted 'perfect peace' is only for those who receive the gift of salvation. The Lord promises to satisfy the longing of every soul committed to His care ...
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Peter's benediction to the early church is a beautiful reminder of faith's reward ...
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us. (2 Peter 1:2-3)
Those who reject the Gospel stumble through life, never knowing the unimaginable peace that accompanies the forgiveness of sin.
'Know Jesus, know peace ... No Jesus, no peace'.
