Christians are sojourners here. A place prepared for those who know Jesus as Lord is their destination. In the meantime, we must navigate life's stormy sea. And ... though we are in a ship named 'Salvation', we're not exempt from suffering things common to man.
Like violent waves crashing against the hull, 'hardship' threatens the journey of faith.
They take many forms: physical illnesses, financial problems, broken relationships, etc. We shouldn't be taken by surprise when afflictions come: Jesus warned of a perilous pilgrimage ... In this world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
Paul gave this admonition ... Keep your head in all situations, endure hardship. (2 Timothy 4:5)
'Enduring hardship' is not displaying fortitude and stoicism in the face of adversity (a 'stiff upper lip'). Emotional self-restraint is not the same as 'walking by faith and not by sight'.
Nothing comes into your life that is not under the Lord's control ... We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Hardship sanctifies the believer ... We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:3-5)
The tempests that you encounter in this life can never sink a boat captained by Jesus Christ.
Come aboard.
