THE INCARNATION OF GOD

The word 'incarnate' is defined as ... embodied in flesh

God, in the person of Jesus Christ, took on human form ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

He came as Israel's promised Messiah, yet the whole world would be impacted by this incarnation. Fully man and fully God at the same, Jesus was uniquely qualified to save mankind from sin's curse ...

He arrived through natural childbirth, was raised by human parents, gradually matured into adulthood, and lived a normal life in every aspect except one. He was completely 'sin-free' ... Jesus was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

Christ was still God, but He had abandoned His 'rightful position'. He no longer held the glory and benefits of heaven, having ... emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:7-8)

The Lamb of God 'physically' suffered at the hands of sinful men, 'physically' died on Calvary's cross, and was 'physically' resurrected when the grave could not hold Him. Without Christ's incarnation, we would be eternally lost.

It reminds those who know Him as Lord ...
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
(Elvina M. Hall - 1865)
