God created us as emotional beings.
Love, joy, happiness, guilt, anger, disappointment, sadness, fear, and disgust are all cognitive reactions to something (or someone). They represent strong feelings, typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in one's body.
Spiritually mature Christians learn to manage their emotions (rather than allowing their emotions to manage them).
For instance, displaying 'out-of-control' anger over a situation reveals that one's flesh is on the throne. We are instructed to live differently than those who don't know the Lord ... So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. (James 1:19-20)
When you 'walk by faith and not by sight', your emotional reactions to any stimuli should cause you to pause, determine the 'why' of it, and align your thoughts with the Savior ... Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5)
We should thank the Lord for our ability to feel emotions. They help define what it means to be a living soul made in the image of God.
We are to steward them as a precious gift ... Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
