THE ADVOCATE

In our human court system, a lawyer speaks on behalf of their client. He has in-depth knowledge of the law and can skillfully navigate complicated statutes. However, as an earthly advocate, he only has 'external' evidence with which to argue the case.

There is also a courtroom in the spiritual realm, where the repentant sinner has a far better Advocate to plead his case. It is based on the 'internal' evidence of a surrendered heart.

Jesus' advocacy is accepted because He fulfilled His Father's redemptive plan ... For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Salvation is secure because the One who purchased it with His own blood stands in the gap. He satisfied the demands of divine justice, so that we are freed from the penalty of sin ... Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, Who is even at the right hand of God, Who also makes intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)

Imagine Jesus before His Father as your defense attorney ... I know this one has sinned and is guilty as charged. However, You've said that My sacrifice is sufficient payment for the debt he owes. You can pronounce him ‘Not Guilty' because My righteousness was applied to his account when he trusted Me for salvation.

Be encouraged concerning your walk of faith, even when you stumble ... My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1)

He does not just represent you 'theoretically'; He represents you 'experientially'. Jesus lived as a man, was tempted in every way you are, and died as the sinless Lamb of God. That more than qualifies Him to be your much-needed Advocate.
