'Trespass' ... to go beyond one’s right by violating a boundary.
The term is used throughout Scripture to describe man's disobedience to God's moral law. No one is exempt ... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
God posted His 'No Trespassing' signs. They are listed in Exodus 20 ...
- Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
- Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
- Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
- Honour thy father and thy mother.
- Thou shalt not kill.
- Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- Thou shalt not steal.
- Thou shalt not bear false witness.
- Thou shalt not covet.
Jesus Christ bore our trespasses so that ... If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
He also taught us how to deal with the sin we witness in others ... Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. (Galatians 6:1)
And the Lord's Prayer reveals how we're to respond to personal slights ... Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:12,14-15)
Forgiveness towards others is evidence of your salvation. The Gospel of Jesus Christ dictates that 'trespasses' are no longer to have power over 'mercy' and 'grace'.
