EQUIPPED FOR FAITH

According to Scripture ... Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

Spurgeon - Brethren, I believe in that which I could not have invented. I believe that which I cannot understand. I believe that which compels me to adore, and I thank God for a rock that is higher than I am.

How does mankind come to trust in God? We have been created with souls that are 'well-equipped':

  • We hear ... Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Those who 'harken unto' the Gospel and surrender to the Holy Spirit's siren call inherit eternal life.
  • We see ... Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2) We have an 'inner vision' that directs our attention away from the world and toward the Lord.
  • We smell ... And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:2) We are able to inhale how precious the Lamb of God truly is.
  • We taste ... O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him. (Psalm 34:8) We feed on the revelation of Jesus Christ, receiving into our lives that which sustains us.
  • We touch ... Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23) We resist anything that tries to break our grip on the truth of God's Word.

'Faith' requires you to believe the Gospel message before you fully comprehend its worthiness, to trust the sufficiency of Christ before you know His steadfast care, to surrender all you are to receive all He is.

God has given you everything you need to do so, pilgrim ...
