According to the Word of God, beyond physical death lies an unending future. Imagine an eternal state of being with no 'finish line' ... one that has no temporal constraints.
Though some defiantly push it away, mankind was created with a keen awareness that the 'here and now' is not all there is ... He has set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Obviously, it is impossible for our finite minds to fully comprehend the concept of 'immortality'. But it can't help but leave an impression of just how brief our time on earth is ... For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. (James 4:14)
- Scripture confirms that we serve ... an everlasting God. (Isaiah 40:28)
- He describes Himself as ... Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8)
- Our Lord is the great ... I AM. (Exodus 3:14)
There are two eternal destinies ... two forever futures.
For those who've received the gift of salvation, eternity is a treasured expectation ... For God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Revelation 21:4)
For those who reject the Gospel of Jesus Christ, eternity becomes a terrible reality ... They will pay the penalty and endure the punishment of everlasting destruction, banished from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power. (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
Without exception, everyone eventually opts for one or the other.
