False religions 'teach for doctrines the commandments of men' (Matthew 15:9) ... dragging unsuspecting souls away from the simple, 'unambiguous' truths found in the Bible.
Faith is to be built on a firm foundation ... All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Do not lose sight of the importance of Sound Doctrine:
- Saving faith is based on the Lord's specific memorandum, the Gospel of Jesus Christ ... For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
- That life-giving message was given as a sacred trust. It must not be compromised ... If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ, they are conceited and understand nothing. (1 Timothy 6:3-4)
- Sin flourishes where 'sound doctrine' is neglected or opposed. Men become ... raging waves of the sea, which are foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom the gloom of darkness has been kept forever. (Jude 1:13)
- It is the prism through which we discern truth from error. We can effectively ... cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Unlike the shallow, destructive teachings of false prophets ... 'sound doctrine' focuses on the sufficiency of Jesus Christ, not man's vain attempt to appease a holy God.
