THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST

Jesus' sacrifice not only won the victory over sin, death, and the grave ... it established His rightful place as Lord over our walk of faith. Sadly, many cling to a belief that they must manipulate God's adjudication through vain attempts to 'earn' His favor.

To them, Jesus is merely a 'figurehead', insufficient to see salvation through to the end. The most deceptive and devastating sin may be ... trusting 'self' to maintain a right relationship with God.

Don't fall prey to 'religious egotism' ... for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Charles Hodge - Those who think they can change their own hearts, atone for their own sins, subdue the power of evil in their own souls, and sustain themselves under affliction ... God leaves to their own resources.

They look like believers, talk like believers, and boldly profess to be Christians ... but unwittingly (or maybe purposefully) trust in the old Mosaic covenant that relies on self-righteousness.

The Son of God obeyed the law on their behalf, yet they've chosen to remain chained to it; rejecting the liberty that's found in Him ... There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)

We must guard against anything that tries to usurp Jesus' authority as Priest and King (including the man in the mirror) ... Such confidence we have through Christ toward God, not that we are sufficient of ourselves to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God. (2 Corinthians 3:4-5)

Salvation comes through a complete reliance upon Him ... Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, (Titus 3:5)

Jesus is sufficient.
