TEMPTATION'S SIREN CALL

The biblical definition of the word 'temptation' ... An enticement or invitation to sin, with the implied promise of greater good to be derived from following the way of disobedience.

It comes from two sources:

1. Satan ... Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

2. Our flesh ... Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:41)

The difference between 'right and wrong' is written on the heart of every human being. When temptation comes, the conscience is pricked with a sense that something is amiss. How a man responds to that warning dictates whether sin gains a foothold.

For a believer in Christ, 'temptation' can bring feelings of guilt and shame as if he's already given in to it. That's Satan's attempt to derail your devotion to the Lord.

He will be judged accordingly ... And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10)

Temptation paints sin as attractive, but it's filthy ... as pleasant, but it's malicious. It promises much, but delivers nothing.

Scripture warns ... Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called 'today', lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:12-13)

The Word of God exposes 'temptation' for what it is, so that sin might be 'cut off at the pass' ... All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Study the Bible so you can both recognize and say no to ... 'temptation's siren call'.
