The "great escape" was made possible by God's "great rescue" ...
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14
The sword of God’s judgment was hanging over our heads from the moment of our birth into Adam's race. We were 'judged already' and on death row, until we were gloriously saved by grace through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ.
But, if instead, one puts off the decision to accept what Jesus accomplished on our behalf, bondage to sin and its resulting penalty remains ...
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3
You need not be a defiant and rebellious reprobate in order to be lost. It is not even necessary that you openly despise, resist, or oppose God; simply 'neglect' the gift of salvation and there will be no escaping judgment.
From the cross of Calvary 'It is finished' fell from Jesus' lips as He completed the redemptive work assigned to Him. Believers are not only set free from the eternal consequences of their sin, but temptation loses its vice-like grip as they navigate this fallen world.
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
You may be going through a trial; something that you believe no one else can fully understand. Even as a believer, you can sometimes feel isolated with no means of escape. But whatever the battle, whatever the temptation ... the Lord knows your plight, knows your frustration, knows your heartache.
You are not alone.
Because of His great love for you, He promises to provide a way out of the darkness. Escape to Him, pilgrim.
