Evidence that a man's faith is genuine is demonstrated by obedience to the Word of God. His 'hearing' must be balanced with (and backed up by) ... his 'doing'.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22
Jesus concluded the Sermon on the Mount with this stern warning ...
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell. And great was its fall. Matthew 7:24-27
Examine the foundation upon which your faith is built ... whether it be the hearing of Christ's sayings and doing them, or the hearing of Christ's sayings and doing them not.
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father ... Matthew 7:21
When God gives a command or sites a spiritual truth, our response reveals whether or not we have saving faith. Acknowledging the Word is one thing, obedience to it ... another.
Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:17
Remember pilgrim, assurance of your salvation comes from a life of 'doing', but ... not by your own strength. Obedience to God's Word will flow naturally when Jesus Christ reigns over every aspect of your life.
Live in His presence, surrender to His Lordship, and sanctify Him in your heart.
