We live in a godless 'age of enlightenment' ... mankind's philosophies, scientific theories, and carnal aspirations have all but replaced faith in the Eternal God of Scripture. Christianity is deemed by today's world as nothing more than an archaic set of rules that inhibits free thought.
Men see themselves as intellectually independent from anything having to do with the Lord's design ...
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings ... Romans 1:22-23
Believing they've applied sound hypotheses to everything, men have instead become self-indulgent 'fools' ... their highbrow speculations concerning the created universe can never replace the truth that they have arrogantly rejected.
Creation testifies to God's existence and power, yet men refuse to believe.
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator. Romans 1:25
If religious, a man now rationalizes sin by incorporating his own thoughts about God. The last stage of this downfall is an assertion that darkness is really light and his futile imagination is actually 'wisdom'.
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20
And once a man rejects the truth of God in Christ, he will fall for anything ... no matter how absurd. This darkening of the heart is actually a manifestation of the Lord's judgment against those who deny Him.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. 1 Corinthians 3:19
When one turns away from the truth found in Jesus Christ, he will inevitably turn to something else. No one lives in a vacuum ... he either worships the Lord or replaces Him with a 'god' of his own making (even if it is himself). This has ultimately resulted in innumerable false religions, which only feed into the depravity we see in these last days.
The 'wisdom' of this fallen world fails at every turn, but the wisdom found in God is steadfast and true. Walk therein, pilgrim.
