The first prayer is simple but powerful ... a touching benediction offered by Paul for believers in Thessalonica. It remains applicable yet today as we seek the Lord on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
May the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God and the endurance of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5
He asked God to keep them on track as they run their race, that their hearts would be moved by His divine love, and through this ... they would be empowered by the Holy Spirit to endure as did their Savior.
Spurgeon - We must peer into this abyss of love; plunge into this sea; dive into this depth unsearchable. See that the love of God is the source and center, fountain and foundation of our salvation and of all that we do for Him.
Offer the perfect transcendency of that prayer for those currently fighting the good fight of faith. May the Lord undergird them with His love when the winds of adversity blow and the enemy seeks to cripple their walk.
The second prayer is for the non-Christians who cross our path ... family members, acquaintances, and strangers alike.
Open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 26:18
I'm sure this was prayed over me when I was a young man steeped in sin. And then, by the grace of God, I opened my heart to the Gospel's life-giving message.
Cease not to pray for the people who grace your life, pilgrim ... whether they be saved or lost, friend or foe.
... and I continue to covet your prayers as well.
