When tried, it is important to remember that the Lord's chastening is motivated by His perfect love. As we endure the discipline necessary for our sanctification, the 'enemy' would have us doubt God's goodness.
Our Heavenly Father is neither angry nor vengeful when it comes to His children.
My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
We might think the work that our affliction is designed to do should come by gentler means, but that notion must be roundly rejected ... for it implies that the Father's methods are misguided. The benefits of going through testing 'His' way is more than sufficient to counterbalance the pain associated with it.
God's correction should not be ignored, resented, or resisted.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. James 1:2-3, 1 Peter 1:7
The Greek word for 'correction' (as used in the New Testament) means restoring something to its proper condition; the picture of helping someone back on his feet after he stumbles. This is what the Word of God does. It 'sets straight' and 'builds up' through divine correction ...
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16
You will continue to grow in your faith when 'correction' is allowed to accomplish its intended purpose in your life. It is not meant to incite fear or harm ... but to ensure that you remain on solid ground.
Embrace it, pilgrim.
