EXERCISE YOUR FAITH

Some people are very disciplined when it comes to their 'workouts'. They religiously invest the time and endure the discomfort associated with staying in shape. Goals are set and their improvements are logged as they demand more and more from their physical bodies.

They know that 'complacency is the enemy of progress'.

Faith is like that. It needs to be exercised in order to prevent spiritual atrophy. We must continually strive to draw nearer our Savior. The Lord asks that we put in the work to deepen our relationship with Him over the course of our lives.

... continue to work out your salvation.  Philippians 2:12

If you earnestly desire to live a life pleasing to God, you must labor to grow your faith. Then you can obediently ... run with endurance the race that is set before you. (Hebrews 12:1)

We should put forth the same determination and dedication to our ongoing spiritual well-being as great athletes do toward their fitness.

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

The danger comes when we refuse to exercise faith. If left dormant, spiritual weakness takes hold, insecurities come to the surface, and we fall prey to temptation and the incessant noise of this world's influence.

Dear pilgrim ... Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1

Grow in faith by nourishing yourself with God's Word, by serving the Lord in that for which you were called, and by trusting in Christ's sufficiency for every aspect of life.
