In the following passage, it is clear that God's desire for all true believers is that they break fellowship with those who embrace false doctrine ...
But in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21
Paul uses this down-to-earth metaphor to distinguish between genuine believers and their spurious counterparts in the body of Christ. The two sets of vessels represent the 'honorable' who live out the truth of God's Word and the 'dishonorable' who have adopted beliefs contrary to Scripture.
Dwight Edwards - In a day when liberal theology has snuffed out the spiritual life of countless churches around the world, it is incumbent upon all true believers to leave these ornate spiritual cemeteries.
We must remove ourselves from the company of 'vessels unto dishonor', for if we maintain even a semblance of fellowship with them, it is only a matter of time before we become tainted by their corrupt form of 'Christianity'.
