These three graces are spoken of throughout the Word of God but are emphasized more fully in Paul's letter to the Corinthians ...
And now these three remain ... faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13
1 Corinthians 13:13
Faith [an abiding trust in God and His promises]
Hope [the confident expectation of eternal salvation]
Hope [the confident expectation of eternal salvation]
Love ['agape' ... unending, unchangeable, and selfless]
Without 'faith' we would not know the Lord; and without 'hope', we would not have the endurance to continue our walk of faith. But, in spite of their importance ... 'love' is greater still. It is the foundation upon which faith and hope exist.
Barclay - Faith without love is cold, and hope without love is grim. Love is the fire which kindles faith and it is the light which turns hope into certainty.
Love never fails. ... 1 Corinthians 13:8
Faith and hope are for this present age, but 'love' is eternal. If you abide in love you abide in God ... He 'IS' love.
