'Forgiveness' is not merely the quieting of a guilty conscience, but a 'right standing' with God ... given, not earned.
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity ... Psalm 32:1-2
· 'Transgression' - crossing a line, defying authority.
· 'Sin' - falling short of or missing a mark.
· 'Iniquity' - crookedness and distortion.
· 'Forgiven' - the lifting of a burden or a debt.
· 'Covered' - that of sacrificial blood covering sin.
· 'Does not impute' - as in bookkeeping; it does not count against a person.
Sin, whether against God or man, whether great or small, whether conscious or inadvertent, whether by omission or commission ... is forgiven through surrendering your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. Ephesians 1:7
'Forgiveness' is God wiping the slate clean so that sin no longer hangs over you like the sharpened blade of a guillotine, ready to drop at any moment.
But now in Christ Jesus, you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
You are set free by the 'only' ransom that is deemed acceptable by God, the precious blood of His Beloved Son.
Mears - 'Redemption' is the most glorious work of God. It is greater far than His work of creation. He spoke a word and worlds were formed, but it cost Him the life of His beloved Son to redeem the world.
