THE ERRING BROTHER

According to Scripture, when a believer strays from the truth found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he puts himself in grave danger ...

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20

The 'waywardness' can refer to anything from a subtle doctrinal deviation to a full-blown moral backsliding; whatever the situation, those who walk in the truth of God's Word have a responsibility to help the 'erring one' return to his First Love.

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Galatians 6:1

Refrain from jumping to conclusions. You don't know the wanderer's spiritual condition until you seek to help him. Sometimes a person falls into sin and then resists sound doctrine in order to justify his behavior. Or, he may have embraced a false teaching which opened the door to the condoning of specific sinsEither way, humbly approach each situation with a heart of love.

So ... not only are you called to proclaim the Gospel message to a lost and dying world, you are to minister restoration to a fallen brother in Christ. Both are to be prayerfully done under the auspices of the Holy Spirit.
