GOD'S OMNISCIENCE

He knows everything about you ... not even the smallest thing eludes God.

Psalm 139:1-6 ...
1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue; you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

King David was comforted by the idea that God knows him exhaustively; past, present, and future ... strengthened and reassured by the fact that no thought, desire, plan, or purpose escapes the eye of his heavenly Father.

Verse 1 - The Lord knows your every emotion, feeling, idea, thought, conception, resolve, aim, doubt, motive, perplexity, and anxiety. There was never a time in which you were unknown to Him, and there will never be a moment in which you shall live beyond His observation.

Verse 2 - Every mundane act and necessary movement, is already known to Him. God understands each thought before you conceive it ... its nature, its source, its drift, and its result. He never misjudges or wrongly interprets you; everything is transparent to His piercing glance.

Verse 3 - The Lord judges your running and your resting; your active life and your quiet life ... whether they are deemed good or evil. There is absolutely nothing concealed from Him, surprising to Him, misunderstood by Him. He is cognizant of everything you do.

Verse 4 - Even your unformed words are completely known to the Lord before they are uttered. Every underlying meaning and motive to your speech is open to His understanding. Thus ... any hope of concealment is futile, for God knows the intent of your heart.

Verse 5 - God has placed you exactly where you are and surrounds your life with His presence. You cannot turn back and so escape Him ... He is 'behind'. You cannot go forward and outmarch Him ... He is 'before'. Your heavenly Father holds you in His grip.

Verse 6 - These overwhelming truths are beyond our limited mental acuity. His knowledge is so deep that we cannot at all comprehend it. Is this not so with every attribute of God? We have no line with which to measure the Infinite.

Spurgeon - David is not alarmed at the fact that God knows all about him; on the contrary, he is comforted, and even feels himself to be enriched. That God should think upon him is the believer's treasure and pleasure.

Though your knowledge of God is limited ... His knowledge of you and your circumstances is never beyond His purview. Through your faith in His Son, forgiveness has been extended. Find rest in that, pilgrim.
