The threat of disapproval, ridicule, or reprisal causes many believers to hide their faith in Christ. To avoid contention, some bend the meaning of scripture to justify their neglect of personal evangelism ... recusing themselves from the Lord's command to share the Gospel.
This ought not to be so.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others ... Matthew 5:14-16
Even though Paul had been imprisoned in Philippi, chased out of Thessalonica, smuggled out of Damascus and Berea, laughed at in Athens, considered a fool in Corinth, and declared a blasphemer and lawbreaker in Jerusalem ... he counted it a privilege to spread the good news found in Christ.
His bold 'stand' should be our bold 'stand' ...
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes ... Romans 1:16
It is true that the Gospel is unattractive, intimidating, and even repulsive to the unsaved world (including those steeped in false religion). When it exposes sin, depravity, and mankind's lost state ... it declares pride to be contemptible and 'works-righteousness' to be of absolutely no value.
When a sinner first hears the Gospel, he may react with disdain toward the messenger and vehemently argue against the message itself. Regardless, don't let the fear of not being able to defend your faith dissuade you. Keep it simple, emphasizing what took place on the Cross of Calvary.
Spurgeon - When we preach Christ crucified, we have no reason to stammer, or stutter, or hesitate, or apologize; there is nothing in the gospel of which we have any cause to be ashamed.
Time is short. Study your Bible, pray often, and be prepared to lead people to Christ.
Regardless of the cost ... be 'unashamed' of the Gospel.
