CONTENTMENT

It is that sweet, inward, quiet condition of the heart, a submission to and delight in our Heavenly Father's care. Contentment comes when you truly embrace the fact that in Christ ... our Lord is forever enough.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Christians can experience divine contentment, even in this torrential 'end-time' storm that rages. We have entered into the 'ark' ... which is a symbol of Jesus Christ, Himself.

Spurgeon - True contentment consists not in the 'largeness of our possessions' but in the 'fewness of our wants'. I have heard of some good old woman in a cottage, who had nothing but a piece of bread and a little water, and lifting up her hands, she said, as a blessing, “What! All this, and Christ too?”

A believer's inner peace is a result of what he finds in the promise of a future with his Savior in Glory. The more that precious 'invisible' reality grips his heart, the less this world's 'visible' offerings can unsettle him.

Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:6-7

Contentment is evidence of a heart at rest. It is the blessed assurance that the Lord does all things well and is making everything work together for our ultimate good.

Paul put it this way ...

I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Philippians 4:11-12

At times, our latent 'fleshly' nature may want something 'more' or something 'other' than what God has generously given us. Oh, that we might acknowledge Jesus Christ's sufficiency for life.
