The following verse is monumental in its scope. Jesus was about to be sacrificed on Calvary's cross, yet His final teaching was a message of consolation. He sought to bring reassurance, support, strength, hope, and courage to His disciples ... and to all of us who put faith in Christ as Savior.
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
The 'world' is the created physical realm in which we live (distinct from the heavenly or spiritual realm). The Greek word translated 'overcome' means to defeat. Jesus knows that you encounter trouble and sorrow in this life, but He has conquered the world and every earthly obstacle that intends to derail your faith ...
1. Anxieties and cares ...
The Lord’s peace transcends all the confusion, fear, and worry associated with this fallen world. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

2. Hatred and persecution ...
Christ’s victory over the world does not physically remove you from the battle. You are of God and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4).

3. Sin and temptation ...
In this world, temptation is a part of life ... but Christ gives you victory over sin. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

4. Spiritual forces ...
Jesus not only paid the penalty for your sins but won a pivotal victory over Satan and all the supernatural powers of evil. And having disarmed authorities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:15)

5. Sorrow and death ...
Jesus conquered death. He shares that victory with all who repent and believe in Him as Lord and Savior. I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. (John 11:25-26).

Jesus has 'overcome' all these things.
His victory is your victory.
Abide in Him.
