Several verses of Scripture contain the term 'hold fast'. It means 'be diligent', 'cling to', or 'take a firm grasp of'. We see it first used as part of a conditional (if ... then) promise made to Moses and the children of Israel ...
For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do - to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him - then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves. Deuteronomy 11:22-23
As a follower of Christ, you have been given the 'promise' of eternal life. In order to experience the assurance of that fact, you must 'hold fast' the Word ... it is God's constant reminder of Who Jesus is and what He accomplished on your behalf.
Paul exhorted ... Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved ... hold fast to the Word. (1 Corinthians 15:1-2)
God wants us to be confident in the finished work of Jesus Christ. We prove the genuineness of our commitment to Him when we 'hold fast' to that which we have received by grace through faith.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
Therein lies our peace.
Paul also implored believers to ... Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish amid a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life. (Philippians 2:14-16)
Dear pilgrim, I urge you to display that same 'faithful perseverance' in your walk of faith. Love Jesus Christ with your entire being, follow Him closely, and serve Him with all your heart.
