PROMISES

The definition of the word 'promise' - a declaration that something will or will not be done: an expressed assurance on which expectation is to be based.

Many who read the Bible claim the promises of God without a clear understanding of the conditional terms. They don't allow the entirety of Scripture to interpret and reveal the intended message of individual verses. Taking selected passages out of context can give a person a false sense of 'well-being' ... when in reality they only apply to genuine followers of Christ.

If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us - eternal life. 1 John 2:24-25

Salvation by grace through faith is the greatest of all promises in the Bible. Once a person receives Christ, every other promise of God is put in its proper context. It is wrong for the world to assume it can garner favor with the Lord ... and at the same time reject His Son.

To the saved comes redemption ... The hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, Titus 1:2

To the saved comes sanctification ...  By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

To the saved comes assurance ... Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love him? James 2:5

To the saved comes direction ... Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5–6

To the saved comes comfort ... I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

For an unbeliever, there are other promises ...

Because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. Romans 2:5

God will repay each person according to what they have done. Romans 2:6

But you still have this one, lost soul ...

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Make no doubt ... God is a promise 'Keeper'.
