When you abide in God's revealed truth and live according to His precepts, He maps out your spiritual journey and personally guides you into a place where His provision sustains you and His presence brings joy.
'Milk and honey' are first mentioned in the Old Testament ...
So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 3:8
The process by which the children of Isreal were set free from slavery, led through the wilderness, and established as a sovereign nation is symbolic of a believer's three-phase walk of faith.
2. Sanctification - set aside and disciplined in the desert (transformed into His likeness)
3. Glorification - brought into the promised land (our forever home)
We don't have to wait until we are with our Heavenly Father to taste of that 'milk and honey'. They represent the nourishment and sweetness of God's word and the Holy Spirit's indwelling.
The symbolism is evident in this passage ... Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth. Ezekiel 3:3
God instructed the prophet to eat that which contained His Word.
Whenever we 'consume' the Word of God, we also experience that same sweetness. It harbors the news of our blessed hope. The Lord’s judgment will come upon those who rebel, but to those who place their faith in Christ ... grace and mercy are extended. Just as honey is sweet and pleasurable to taste, Scripture brings delight and joy to the believer's heart.
God's Word has power. It renews your mind, transforms your character, and awakens the Spirit within. It brings wisdom, guidance, and revelation, leading to a deeper understanding of the Lord's love and purpose.
The imagery of milk and honey serves as a reminder of God's faithfulness to His own. It represents the goodness and abundance He gives those who follow Him faithfully.
In conclusion ... 'milk' is nourishment, growth, and sustenance. It represents the foundational teachings and truths that strengthen you on your journey of faith. 'Honey' symbolizes the delight and satisfaction you experience when, as an adopted child of God, you enjoy your Father's presence and guidance.
