SO WE WAIT

It is the day after the crucifixion.

The disciples had just suffered through a sleepless night as they tried to understand everything that had taken place ... Judas' betrayal in the garden, Christ's trial before the Roman authorities, the brutal scourging at the hands of sadistic men, and the death of their leader on Calvary's cross.

They spent Saturday hiding for fear of being arrested.

It is now the Jewish Sabbath and normal activity is brought to a standstill ... it is a day of rest according to God's commandment. The 'hush' is notably ominous, especially after yesterday's unrestrained clamor.

In Joseph’s tomb lies a lifeless cadaver wrapped in linen.

Not only is the Son of God silent and still ... His Father is profoundly quiet. The world heard Him loud and clear yesterday; the ground shook, graves were opened, and the sun refused to shine.

But ... now it's Saturday.

The Bible speaks very little about the day between Good Friday and Easter, but we should not ignore its spiritual significance. It represents the period between struggle and solution; question and answer; prayer and response.

When the world comes crashing in, God's silence can be disheartening. The Savior understood 'Saturdays' and had this conviction concerning His Father: You will not abandon me ... (Acts 2:27)

Max Lucado - Jesus knew God would not leave him alone in the grave. You need to know that He will not leave you alone with your struggles. His silence is not his absence, inactivity is never apathy. For His reasons, God inserts a Saturday between our Fridays and Sundays.

When long days of waiting drag on, you may be tempted to question your faith or voice frustration ... "Have You forsaken me, Lord"?

He bids you to trust Him in the darkness ... Sunday's coming
